Syringa Syringa (Lilac) is a genus of deciduous shrubs and small trees with green, opposite leaves. They feature very fragrant flowers, borne in conical inflorescences in April and May, and more rarely in June.Plant lilacs in full sun, in neutral or alkaline, moderately moist, humus-rich soils. Prune lightly after flowering and remove overmature flowers.Plant alone or in groups and free hedges, or use for cut flowers.Propagated by offshoots and grafting on privets.
